On 14th March 2020, the first International Day of Mathematics took place around the world.
As we announced here, International Mathematics Day, created at the initiative of the International Mathematical Union, is now held every year on 14th March. Its first edition, a few days ago, had as its theme “Mathematics is everywhere”.
The planned launch at UNESCO could not take place because of COVID-19, but many activities took place around the world.

In 2022, mathematicians will of course be mobilized on 14th March to share their science, but also throughout the year: mathematics is essential for sustainable development. These days, epidemiological modelling and discussions on the validity of clinical trials for drugs, which figure prominently in the media, are a sad reminder of this.
