Universities and Climate Change: SCO Territory
Over the course of two days, the conference will bring together leading scholars researching climate change topics, green economy, sustainable development, and the concept of “Higher Education for Sustainable Development.” It will also include university administrators implementing the “green university” concept, research and educational programs in the field of climate change and transition to a low-carbon economy, students, postgraduates, young scientists in related fields, and representatives of large businesses.
The aim is to facilitate professional networking, exchange experiences in implementing climate and low-carbon agendas, as well as sustainable development initiatives within higher education organizations. Additionally, the conference seeks to create new forms and expand international collaboration in higher education with the aim of combating climate change and fostering ‘green skills’ among the youth.
The conference serves as a platform for discussions on practical frameworks involving universities, government, and businesses in meeting both national and corporate goals on climate action and decarbonization. At the core of this event is the critical role that basic sciences play in understanding and mitigating climate change.
Universities are key players in generating the scientific research and innovation necessary for sustainable development. The conference aims to answer important questions related to the “green” agenda, such as:
– the practical and strategic benefits to universities of engaging in environmental initiatives;
– the competencies required by the business sector to implement ESG strategies, improve non-financial reporting, and guide the financial sector in ‘greening’ portfolios. How to develop these competencies in today’s students to prepare them for the future.
Furthermore, the conference explores opportunities for cross-border collaboration in climate action within the SCO countries, offering a multi-lateral approach to sustainable development. Together, these components make our conference highly relevant to the promotion of basic sciences as a foundation for achieving sustainable development goals.
