In his remark at the launching of “2022 IYBSSD with Universities in Korea,” Michel Spiro, expressed belief that Korean authorities will organize events to celebrate the ‘International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development’. Abdulsalam MAHMUD reports.
Michel Spiro, Chair of the Steering Committee of IYBSSD2022, is counting on the Republic of Korea to organize many special events to celebrate the ‘International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development’ (IYBSSD2022).
In a one minute thirty two seconds YouTube video, Spiro, urged Korean authorities to mobilize their citizens to massively participate in various activities they will organize to promote basic sciences in the Asian nation.
He made this known in his ‘congratulatory remark’ during the launching of “2022 IYBSSD with Universities in Korea”, on April 19, 2022.
The event was organized by the ‘Committee for 2022 IYBSSD with Universities in Korea’.
While thanking the organizers of the event, Spiro, disclosed that due to the ravaging Coronavirus, IYBSSD will span two years, from 2022 to 2023.
According to him, the IYBSSD opening ceremony will take place in July 2022 in Paris, at the UNESCO Headquarters, while the closing ceremony is slated for June 2023.
Spiro, who also, is the President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), said: “Korea has shown to be one of the highest supporters of science, basic sciences and our International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, IYBSSD. And I am sure, Korea, again, will be one of the main players of IYBSSD”.
Immediately after launching ‘2022 IYBSSD with Universities in Korea,’ the college of natural sciences in 20 Korean universities have started organizing local events to promote basic sciences among high school and middle school students.
