The curtain has been drawn on a symposium organized by the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN).
The symposium, which was tagged: “The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for the Benefit of Society,” was part of the IUPAC | CCCE 2021.
The virtual event, which recently ended, attracted 15 scientists, researchers, experts and representatives of scientific institutions as speakers at the on-demands talks and live session discussions.
They spoke on select topics revolving around SDGs, and sciences.
At the IYCN symposium, Luc Allemand, Secretary General of the Steering Committee for the Proclamation of an International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development in 2022 (IYBSSD 2022) spoke on, “The International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development: We Need it More Than Ever”.
Jose de Mesa of the SAICM Secretariat, United Nations Environment Programme, spoke on: “Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste to Protect People and the Planet”.
“Being a Voice to Young Scientists: The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for the Benefit of Society,” was the topic discussed by Anindita Bhadra of Global Young Academy.
Emiel Dobbelaar spoke on, “Young Chemists for Sustainability: A Global, Collaborative Effort”.
The paper, “Working Together Towards a Sustainable Future,” was presented by Juliana Vidal.
While “Making Green: The Chemistry of Consumer Products” was handled by the trio of Kelly Chou, Kailey Sun Marcus and Thomas McKeag.
“Toxicology for Chemists: An Open-Access Curriculum to Empower Chemists to Use Toxicology Knowledge for Sustainable Science,” was the issue dissected by Nimrat Obhi, PhD, the Program Manager, Higher Education; Beyond Benign.
