Le Courrier du Vietnam reported the opening of a summer school in theoretical physics organized by Les Rencontres du Vietnam, a member of the IYBSSD steering committee.
The Advanced Summer School in Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Gravity brings together the participation of around 100 scientists from 11 countries and territories, including 11 Americans, 8 Indians, 7 Chinese, 6 Japanese, 6 Italians, as well as others from Belgium, Australia, Palestine, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Spain, etc.
Scientists from renowned research institutes and universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Chicago, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are expected to exchange and discuss knowledge on quantum field theory, quantum gravity, string theory, black holes, amplitudes, holography, cosmology, quantum information theory, theoretical condensed matter and artificial intelligence. This exchange benefits around 80 Vietnamese and foreign PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.
The Advanced Summer School in Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Gravity is part of the Rencontres du Vietnam, which includes 33 scientific symposia and specialized science schools for its 19th edition, organized this year at ICISE. The event is considered highly prestigious in the scientific world.
The Summer School edition is being held for the first time in Vietnam, instead of at the Institut d’études scientifiques de Cargèse (France), where it had been held for the past 30 years. This decision was made possible thanks to the support of some twenty brilliant scientists from around the world, including four Nobel Prize laureates in physics. The event makes a significant contribution to the goal of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development 2022-2023, declared by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in December 2021.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Professor Trân Thanh Vân – president of the “Rencontres du Vietnam” association shared his delight: “This year marks the first time this advanced summer school has been held outside France. We are very happy when the Organizing Committee and Professor Laurent Baulieu decided to organize this school at ICISE, in the next times (in 2025 and 2027).”
For his part, the Vice President of Binh Dinh Province, Lâm Hai Giang, wishes:“Today’s class is not only a bridge to exchange and share knowledge, but it is also a link to help Professors, scientists and international students better understand the cultural, historical, natural and human characteristics of Binh Dinh in particular and Vietnam in general.”
As part of the Advanced Summer School in Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Gravity, a dozen scientists in mathematics applied to quantum physics will organize a symposium on operator algebras, deformation quantization and associated field theories at ICISE.
