The city of Barcelona has hosted the ‘15th Science Festival’ in Spain, an event which featured almost 200 science and technology outreach activities.
It is part of the Pla Barcelona Ciència 2020-2030 and its objective is “to promote dialogue between science and society, in this case from a playful perspective”.
In addition, the City Council has informed through a statement that the Science Festival is launching a new itinerant format and each edition will be located in a different neighborhood of the city to “decentralize it and make it reach the entire territory”, placing this year the center nerve center of the event on the Rambla del Raval .
Science around sustainability
The City Council has highlighted that this edition coincides with different events in the scientific field , which “will be present during the celebration” and that revolve around sustainability:
- The International Year of Glass
- The International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development
- International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture
- The Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development which started in 2021.
Activities
The great citizen meeting with scientific culture is open to the public of all ages and does so with a wide range of formats that will make you experience science in the first person: experiments, installations, games, workshops, demonstrations, shows, debates, micro-talks , itineraries and guided tours, among others. All of this is organized by more than 150 research centers and groups, universities and scientific dissemination companies in the metropolitan area.
Among the activities, there is a new space dedicated to the oceans and the possibility of visiting spaces such as the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia and the interior of the Casa de Convalescència de Sant Pau, headquarters of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC).
