To encourage Denmark citizens to talk more about science, the Niels Bohr Institute, has kickstarted the celebration of IYBSSD2022, with the launching of a ‘Christmas calendar’. Abdulsalam MAHMUD reports.
Activities and special events across the world, organized by governments and international organisations, have been planned as part of highlighting the values and importance of basic sciences.
2022 had already been proclaimed as the ‘International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development’, IYBSSD2022.
IYBSSD opening ceremony
The United Nations’ celebration of research (basic sciences) will be officially kicked off with a conference on 30 June, 2021 at the opening ceremony of IYBSSD2022.
The various activities linked to the year of science will be organized around the world until June 30, 2023.
Niels Bohr Institute
In Denmark, the Niels Bohr Institute has in turn flagged off the Danish counterpart to the UN’s scientific celebration of IYBSSD2022, with the Christmas calendar ‘Kometernes Jul’ on TV 2.
The Christmas calendar was created in collaboration between the Niels Bohr Institute, Nordisk Film and TV 2 with the hope of getting Danes to talk about science around the dinner table.
