There are three Fonds de Recherche du Québec.

The Fonds Nature and Technologies (FRQNT)

The mission of FRQNT is as follows:

  • to promote and provide financial support for research in the fields of natural sciences, mathematical sciences and engineering;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the dissemination of scientific knowledge in fields of research relating to natural sciences, mathematical sciences and engineering;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the training of researchers through merit scholarships for graduate and postgraduate students and persons who engage in postdoctoral research, through professional development scholarships for persons who wish to re-enter the research community, and through grants that allow the teaching duties of college level professors engaging in research activities to be reduced;
  • to create any necessary partnerships, in particular with universities, colleges, and industry and the government departments and public and private bodies concerned.

  • Living organisms (animal, monera, protist, plant);

The Fonds Health (FRQS)

The mission of FRQS is as follows:

  • to promote and provide financial support for all areas of research in the field of health, including basic, clinical and epidemiological research, research in the field of public health and research in the field of health services;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the dissemination of scientific knowledge in fields of health research;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the training of researchers through merit scholarships for graduate and postgraduate students and persons who engage in postdoctoral research and through professional development scholarships for persons who wish to re-enter the research community;
  • to create any necessary partnership, in particular with universities, colleges and health care institutions, and the government departments and public bodies concerned

The Fonds Society and Culture (FRQSC)

FRQSC has the following mission:

  • to promote and provide financial support for research in the fields of social sciences and humanities and the fields of education, management, arts and literature;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the dissemination of scientific knowledge in fields of research relating to social sciences and humanities and to education, management, arts and literature;
  • to promote and provide financial support for the training of researchers through merit scholarships for graduate and postgraduate students and persons who engage in postdoctoral research, through professional development scholarships for persons who wish to re-enter the research community, and through grants that allow the teaching duties of college level professors engaging in research activities to be reduced;
  • to create any necessary partnerships, in particular with universities, colleges and cultural institutions, and the government departments and public and private bodies concerned.

Areas of research

Research on the mechanisms of the acquisition, production, transformation, dissemination and comprehension of arts and literature and their fundamental properties. This area also includes the analysis of literary phenomena and their associated theories, the study of literary corpora, and intertextual and transcultural issues including the connections between the literature of a given society and other literatures.
