To celebrate this year’s International Day of Mathematics, the International Mathematical Union, in collaboration with UNESCO and IYBSSD, organized a webinar to promote the knowledge and applications of industrial mathematics.
The International Day of Mathematics is annually celebrated on March 14.
During the webinar themed, “Industrial Mathematics: Applications and Challenges,” Mr Xing QU, Deputy Director General and Assistant Director-General Natural Sciences at UNESCO, in his opening remarks, said that UNESCO wants to draw global attention to one of the most exciting and innovative areas of research in applied mathematics, which is industrial mathematics.
“As we go forward, we shall rely heavily om mathematics to build a sustainable industrial system,” he noted.
Xing QU said that industrial mathematics is hoping, for example to develop a predictive models for wind turbines, which are subject to wear and tear from constant use and exposure to harsh weather.
He added that the 4th Industrial Revolution will be filled by the use of mathematics by industries.
