The Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC), in partnership with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), has created a ‘thematic page’ to celebrate the ‘Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development’.
2022 is the Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD). In view of this, the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC), in partnership with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), launched a thematic page, which will be updated periodically, with the schedule of events on basic sciences in Brazil.
The Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development was defined by the United Nations General Assembly with the aim of highlighting the link between basic sciences and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as highlighting how the basic sciences are essential to sustainable development.
Value of basic sciences
From July 1, 2022 to July 1, 2023, academies and scientific associations around the world will hold events, lectures, meetings and other actions to demonstrate the importance of basic science for the future.
Here, in Brazil, SBPC and ABC are partners in this initiative and will participate in official activities and in the evaluation of proposals for events officially organized within the scope of the Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
