In just a month, the UN Member States will celebrate the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
A special meeting of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly will be held 24th May, under the auspices of its president, Ambassador Csaba Kőrösi. As this assembly promulgated by consensus the International Year, 2nd December 2021, during its 76th session, delegates from Member States will have the opportunity to discuss its content and outcomes to date.
This high-level event is one of the International Year opportunities to mobilize policy makers to recognize the important role to basic sciences in the progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance to develop this role everywhere on the planet. It is intended to trigger a reflection among Member States, beyond this particular international year, and especially of the benefits for society of an integrated action of all sciences for sustainability.
Although attendance to meetings at the UN General Assembly is reserved to Member States delegations, it will be possible to watch this meeting live, thanks to the streaming offered by the UN Web TV.
