Abdulsalam Baba-Mahmud is a seasoned Nigerian science editor and journalist who has contributed top-notch special reports and opinion editorials (Op-ed articles) for the African Science Literacy Network (ASLN) and Science Communication Hub Nigeria news sites. Before venturing into science journalism in 2018, Mahmud had covered, and still reports environmental issues, defence/security matters, and educational activities.
He had worked for Newsline newspaper, The Royalty Magazine, and Nigeria Now Magazine as reporter, freelance commentator, columnist and researcher, at various points, in the past.
At the moment, Mahmud is an Assistant Editor with PRNigeria, a news agency in Nigeria; and Supervising Editor with Emergency Digest, a security-focused online tabloid. Several of his news stories, features, special reports and opinion articles have been published in The Nation, Daily Trust, The Punch, Nigerian Tribune, Blueprint, Daily Sun, and Leadership, among other national dailies in Nigeria.
Mahmud, who holds a Distinction in Mass Communication (Diploma) and a B.Sc degree in Peace Studies and Conflict resolution, has participated in several media workshops and training programmes in Nigeria.
Mahmud, who occasionally writes science reports/papers for NewsTank HE, a French-based media organization, joined the IYBSSD2022 team in August 2021, and has been reproducing, editing and publishing the reports and articles of IYBSSD2022 development partners.
