The United Nations Education Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced that from July 2022 to June 2023 as the “Internal Year of the Internality of Sustainable Science (IYBSSD)”, inviting countries to respond together. In order to declare that Taiwan supports international communities to promote basic science and move towards sustainable development, the National Science and Technology Commission responded to IYBSSD, and launched “basic science to promote the sustainable development of the International Year IYBSSD-Taiwan series of promotion activities”. The spirit of sustainable Taiwan enhances the importance of the people in our country to basic science, and at the same time shows the international wealth of basic scientific energy to the international, combined with industry, government, education, research, and international cooperation. The contents of the event, publicize the four core themes: scientific equal rights, scientific enlightenment, participation of the whole people, connecting the international, and jointly create a sustainable future from Taiwan and the International. The launching ceremony of “Basic Science Promoting the Sustainable Development International Year IYBSSD-Taiwan Series Promotion Activities” was specially selected at the largest scientific research vessel in Taiwan, “Li Jin”, and began on 15 August 2023, at 2 pm. Led by President Tsai Ing -wen and the National Science and Technology Commission to declare its sailing. The Taiwan scientific community set off from Taiwan and traveled internationally, showing the energy of “rooting science” and the determination of “sustainable Taiwan”.
