The theme for the SAASTEC Conference is ‘Science engagement as a driver for basic sciences’.

Science and technology centres strive to offer various programmes targeting different audiences. This theme relates specifically to UNESCO’s international year of basic sciences. It is against this background that the theme presents an opportunity to explore different methodologies of engaging our stakeholders in Southern Africa to pave a way forward of enhancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
