2023 IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast Taiwan Event “The Crucial Roles of Female Characteristics in Promoting SDGs and IDGs”
The Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) with the theme “Breaking Barriers in Science” and in response to the United Nations’ “International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development” saw participation from 363 events in 74 countries worldwide. The local event, “Global Women’s Breakfast Taiwan”, was co-organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center (ASRC) of National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) and CSLT. It was held at the beautiful Sunset Beach Resort in the campus of National Sun Yat-sen University on February 14th. Nearly 100 people attended in person or on-line.
With the aim to guide participants in transcending various preset social boundaries, the organizing committee opened the event with a 20-minute session of music and art performances which enabled the participants to refresh their minds and cross the boundaries of science, art and humanity, and nature. Thereafter, short talks and interactive activities were held on diverse interdisciplinary topics, which crossed boundaries of science, industries, generations, genders, as well as between the body and the environment. The results of the post-event survey revealed that traits such as empathy, communication and coordination skills, cooperation, open-mindedness towards new ideas, inclusivity, humility, affability, patience, and meticulousness are expected to play critical roles in advancing inner development (ID) and sustainable development (SD).
