Understanding Behaviour 2023 Conference
Understanding Behaviour 2023 is a conference that aims to bring together researchers interested in studying different aspects of behaviour, ecology and evolution across scales in India. Behaviour is ubiquitous, and can be studied at various levels of organization, from single molecules to populations, using tools as diverse as microscopy, field observations and mathematical modelling.
India has a growing community of researchers engaged in understanding nature and natural processes, utilizing the rich biodiversity of the country. Understanding Behaviour 2023 aims to bring together researchers interested in the broad theme of behaviour, encompassing ethology, ecology and evolution, to engage in scientific discussion, and in a community building exercise.
Behaviour, ecology and evolution are fields that address questions of diversity and sustainability. This conference will cover subthemes pertaining to SDG 14 (Life below water), SDG15 (Life on land) and SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities). All research that is carried out in these fields is in the realm of basic sciences.
We expect a large footfall from UG and PG level students, who will become aware of the SDGs, and will be influenced to think in terms of sustainability. We will have sustainable materials used for food service during the conference, and no plastic bottles will be allowed for drinking water.
There will be an outreach event for school children to encourage them to appreciate nature, and to learn to observe life around them and ask scientific questions. This workshop is aimed to help build curiosity and awareness of sustainable practices among the young for a better future. This workshop is aimed to contribute to SDG4 (quality education).
